FAQ

Will it be challenging for me to navigate the terrain if I have a physical disability?
You will be able to drive directly into the meadow where we will be camping and have access to your vehicle at the campsite. The trails through the forest are fairly flat and lined with wood chips. We have had several participants in the past who walk with the assistance of a cane and they have had no trouble. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns and we will do our best to accommodate.
Will there be camping gear available for me to borrow if I’m flying in from out of state?
We are happy to bring extra camping gear for those who are flying in from out of state, just let us know when you register and we will make sure you have everything you need to be warm and comfortable.
Are there meals provided?
We will provide dinner on Friday and Saturday, and lunch on Sunday before our departure. Upon registration you will receive a health and safety questionnaire in which you can detail any dietary restrictions or allergies you may have so that we can plan our menus accordingly.
There will be light snacks and refreshments provided throughout the weekend.
There are plenty of grocery stores en route to the land where you can pick up provisions to keep yourself fed between meals and snacks.
Is there WiFi access on the land?
While some phones do pick up a rogue signal, you should prepare to be completely off-grid during your weekend with us. The experience of being unplugged is truly refreshing and we find that it helps with integration and presence. If you need to make a phone call or get online, you can drive into town to get reception. In the case of an emergency, we have access to on-site reception down at the home of the steward of the land.
Is this a sober event?
We are not opposed to sharing in libations around the fire at the end of our day. We do expect that those who choose to imbibe to do so respectfully and responsibly. If you are someone who is on a sobriety journey, please know that you can reach out to us to express any concerns or share ways in which we can support you.
What airport shall I fly into?
You can fly into Seattle International Airport (SEA) or Portland International Airport (PDX). Both are about 100 miles from Red Hawk Avalon where the retreat will be held.
What is the privy situation on the land?
There will be a porta potty on site. Please restrict major bodily functions and/or TP use to privies. Feel free to water the plants.
There are no shower facilities on site, but you are welcome to wash off in the creek. Please use only products that will be gentle with the earth.
What is your cancellation policy?
You can find our terms and conditions HERE
Is this a grief retreat?
This is not a grief retreat. This is a practical skills training retreat with elements of connection and ritual.
Naturally with the subject matter there is grief that comes to the surface. Some of the topics we discuss and activities we facilitate can be very challenging and emotional. We provide a safe space for grief to be felt, shared, and released, but a grief retreat would necessitate its own container and facilitation. That being said, many of our participants experience their own catharsis and deep processing on the grounds of this sacred forest.
How do I get to the land?
The nearest train station is in Centralia and we can arrange for someone to pick you up from the station if that is your method of travel. Otherwise we will provide detailed driving directions and will set up a group signal chat prior to the event for anyone who would like to coordinate rideshares.
